Group Exercise Sampler

  • Join us for a sample of new classes that will be offered this semester! Stay for one or all. Space is limited.

Self-Defense Workshop

Monday, Jan. 26, 7-8:30 p.m.

Wellness and Recreation Complex, Room 202

  • In this women-only workshop, you will learn the basics on how to prevent being assaulted. We'll review the basic ideas in self-defense and practice some simple self-defense skills.


February

February is Love Your Body Month, in celebration of National Eating Disorders Awareness (NEDA) week. Many programs will focus on how to love and appreciate one’s own body.

Wellness Screening Day

Monday, Feb. 2, 12-4 p.m.,

Wellness Resource Room, Wellness and Recreation Complex

  • Participants may stop by the Wellness Resource Room from 12-4 p.m. for wellness screenings. Screenings will include blood pressure, body composition (fat percentage), and resting heart rate measurements. Personal trainers and exercise science students will take the measurements and report your results and ratings immediately.

Mindful Eating

Tuesday, Feb. 3, 7 p.m.

Wellness and Recreation Complex, PE 119

  • Do you find yourself eating too quickly or mindlessly? Mindful eating a technique that helps us slow down and enjoy our food. The registered dietitian will present this seminar.

  • Free snacks!

MissRepresentation Screening and Discussion

Tuesday, Feb. 10, 7-9 p.m.

  • This film addresses the under-representation of women in positions of power in America, and challenges the media’s representation of what it means to be a woman, including what one should look like.

  • All are welcome, and plan to stay for a discussion after the film!

  • Maybe you’ve seen some of the Letters to My Body posted around campus, or you’re wondering where they came from. Join the PAWS to write your own letter to your body.

Fit Fest

  • Join us for this fun and interactive health and wellness festival held in celebration of NIRSA’s Recreational Sport and Fitness Day! Participants will receive free t-shirts! Raffle prizes will include an iPad, iPod, and gas card!!

  • Did you know your risk of melanoma increases by 75% when you use tanning beds before the age of 35? A 10+ year tanning bed user discusses her story about ignorance and melanoma that changed her life forever! Attendees will have the chance to win a free spray tan!

Tuesday, March 24, 1 p.m.

Wellness and Recreation Complex, Room 214

  • Learn how to use your foam roller to prepare and regenerate your muscles. Using a foam roller can reduce tightness, increase flexibility, and offer many of the same benefits as a massage. A foam roller works by breaking down the scar tissue, while increasing circulation and blood flow to the surrounding soft tissue. In this workshop, you will learn proper foam rolling techniques for muscle groups head to toe. Attendees will have a chance to win a free foam roller!

Glow-Yo

Friday, May 1, 8 p.m.

Wellness and Recreation Complex, Room 214

  • This will not be your average relaxing yoga class. We will be transforming our group exercise room into a glow-in-the-dark space with glow-in-the-dark decorations and upbeat tunes. Be sure to wear white or neon. We will be providing glow necklaces and bracelets at the door and raffling off three awesome yoga mats!

     

Stress Relief Day

  • Cinco de Mayo theme! Take a quick break from studying and relieve some stress with us. Activities such as chair massages, make-your-own body scrubs and stress balls, aromatherapy, and much more will be offered.
