Primary Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility for biology (primarily A & P) laboratory instruction.
  • Responsibility for tutoring or assisting students who need additional help or resources (holding a minimum of one office hour per week per lab assigned is expected).
  • Responsibility for grading lab reports/quizzes/tests using a common rubric.
  • Responsibility for creating instructional pre-lab quizzes (using i-clickers).
  • Assisting the lead faculty member in the creation of rubrics used to evaluate all sections’ lab reports.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Participating in weekly lab instructor meetings with laboratory coordinator, other lab instructors and lead lecture instructor
  • Running weekly review/help sessions for small groups of students
  • Proctoring lecture exams
  • Assisting with lab activities done for recruitment (e.g. accepted students Open House)

Fellowship Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Teaching/tutoring experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to work effectively with students, other grad fellows, and faculty in the department.
  • The fellow must have a strong background in anatomy and physiology having taken at least two semesters of anatomy and physiology as an undergraduate, earning a grade of B or better.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets (i.e. Excel) to maintain student records

Position Requirements:

The fellow must be a full-time graduate student at Springfield College in good standing. Each lab has two contact hours, one “prep” hour and one “correcting” hour per week. Specific lab assignments are based on the Fellow’s expertise and class schedule.

Fellowship Preferred Qualifications

Students enrolling in the graduate programs in exercise physiology will be given priority consideration. 

Students meeting the expressed position requirements enrolling in physical education, professional athletic training, and other programs with science-based curricula are encouraged to apply.
